Women's Board

In 1980, a group of 11 women founded the Women's Board of the Central Ohio Diabetes Association to advance the growth of Central Ohio Diabetes Association. Since that time the Women's Board has grown into a vital and active organization dedicated to the mission of Central Ohio Diabetes Association.

Twenty nine years later the goal remains intact. Over the years, there have been many changes and the membership has increased. The Women's Board remains a strong support group, while encouraging education and the sponshorship of many important programs. These programs include but are not limited to: camps for children with diabetes ages 3-18, college scholarships, youth holiday parties, education and local research.

The Women's Board meets monthly from September through May. Meetings feature guest speakers to promote diabetes education, new developments, social interaction and to discuss the Board's annual fund-raising project. Over the years, through their fund raising effort, the Women's Board has contributed over $1,000,000 to the youth and education propgrams of the Central Ohio Diabetes Association.

A diverse group of women make up the Board: including original founding members, women with diabetes as well as those who have family with diabetes, friends and also individuals who work in the health care industry.

All members of the Women's Board have been touched by diabetes in some way and have gathered to form a close knit group that supports each other, while improving the lives of others. The enduring friendships within the group speak volumes of the unique nature of the Women's Board.

The Women's Board welcomes interested parties to visit their meetings and talk to the members.

To help fight diabetes, the Women's Board sponsors an annual benefit fund raiser called the "Deck The Halls" Tour of Homes. The proceeds from this event help support Central Ohio Diabetes Association?s programs including a summer camp for youth with diabetes, and college scholarships for students with diabetes.

If you would like more information about the Women's Board or would like to become a member, please fill out the Volunteer Application. Many of the Women's Board members are mothers with children with diabetes, who benefit greatly from the support they receive from other members.
